Can you eat your way to higher NAD+ levels?

There are certain foods which can potentially boost NAD+ levels in the body. These include cow’s milk, fish, mushrooms, yeast, green vegetables and whole grains. Raw foods that contain vitamin B, like avocados, steamed fish, and peanuts are also thought to help boost NAD+ levels. But, can you really eat your way to higher NAD+ levels? Let’s look at cow’s milk. To see even the slightest increase you’d need to drink at least three glasses of cow's milk each day, every day. However, there’s emerging research that suggests cow’s milk can be difficult for people to digest, resulting in nausea, cramps, gas, bloating, and diarrhea. And if you have a diagnosed dairy intolerance it’s completely out of the question. Now let’s think about yeast. We all know that yeast is found in beer. But are we really suggesting you increase your beer consumption to improve your NAD+ levels? Not at all. NAD+ is responsible for maintaining the overall metabolic processes of the body which alcohol consumption can disrupt. Long-term alcohol consumption also reduces the efficacy of NAD+ and increasing your alcohol intake is not something we’d ever recommend. Other sources of yeast include breads, muffins, croissants, biscuits, and other baked goods which aren’t staples of a healthy diet. Plus, if you have a yeast intolerance or an allergy you’re going to want to avoid these types of food.

NAD+ precursors in food

Nicotinic acid (niacin) nicotinamide and nicotinamide riboside are all precursors to NAD+. Which are all technically types of B3. But it’s worth mentioning that not all NAD+ are created equal. To get more nicotinamide riboside through your diet you need to specifically seek out foods proven to contain nicotinamide riboside, not only foods high in B3. And unfortunately, there aren’t many food sources that contain proven high levels of nicotinamide riboside to begin with. Ultimately, it’s difficult to really know the levels of NAD+ you’re really getting from food sources. And it’s not likely that the commercially produced dairy and yeast products available in supermarkets contain enough NAD+ to make a difference or outweigh the health costs of increasing your dairy or yeast intake.

NAD+ supplements

NAD+ supplements however are by far the easiest and most effective way of boosting NAD+ levels in the body. They don’t require you to overhaul your diet in any huge way (although a healthy diet is something we would always recommend) and certainly don’t require you to increase your dairy or yeast consumption to see the benefits. Our Optima Max supplement is pure NAD+ and is based on the same formulation as our signature NAD+ IV in an oral form. It optimises brain and cellular health while promoting a reduction in the cellular ageing process. Other benefits include improving focus, concentration and cognitive function, protecting and repairing DNA (which promotes healthy ageing) and supporting the immune system. These supplements contain pure NAD+ and are highest potency NAD+ supplements. Our best selling Optima Max is now also available in a convenient 20 tablet packet, try it for yourself now.
