What is NAD+?
NAD+ stands for nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide and is a coenzyme that naturally occurs in our bodies. NAD+ plays an important role in energy production, as it helps sustain our mitochondrial function. Mitochondria are responsible for converting oxygen and nutrients into energy, in turn generating around 90% of the energy our cells need to function and survive. We all have NAD+ in our cells and it plays a vital role in our health. Why do we need NAD+?
We need NAD+ in order to lead happy and healthy lives because it impacts so many functions within the body. As we mentioned previously, it enables our mitochondria to function properly - but what does this actually mean? Well, NAD+ works to keep the body healthy by supporting metabolisms, repairing damage to cells and DNA and boosting your immune system. Without NAD+, the body simply wouldn’t be able to function and do all the things it does to maintain our daily physical and mental health.NAD+ and oxidative stress
Oxidative stress is one of the most damaging processes that occurs in our body. It’s a phenomenon caused by an imbalance between production and accumulation of oxygen reactive species in cells and tissues and the ability of a biological system to detoxify these reactive products. Oxidative stress can lead to symptoms such as:- Fatigue
- Memory loss or brain fog
- Muscle and/or joint pain
- Wrinkles and loose skin
- Headaches
- Chronic conditions such as cancer, diabetes, and heart disease
Can you have too much NAD+?
The simple answer is no. This is because, unfortunately, our NAD+ levels decline with age which leads to the internal and external signs of ageing. This is because of the oxidative stress that occurs and damages our cells. When our NAD+ levels reduce, there aren’t enough NAD+ molecules to combat oxidative stress. By age 40, levels of NAD+ have declined by 50%. This jumps to 80% by age 60. This explains why there's a decline in cognitive function and the body's ability to repair cellular damage as we age. This is why it’s important to supplement NAD+ to bring them back to normal levels. Because it naturally occurs in the body, there aren’t any side effects to taking NAD+ supplements. Our Optima Max 100 is a daily oral supplement developed by our research & development team and is based on the same formulation as NADclinic’s pioneering NAD+ IV protocol. It has the highest purity and potency of any non-prescription NAD+ supplement available. The Optima Max NAD+ supplements contain 100mg of pure NAD+. Simply take 2 tablets per day to start seeing the benefits. Shop NAD+ Optima Max supplements.Read more
