When our skin is exposed to direct sunlight, the body is forced to to use increased amounts of NAD+ to repair cell damage caused by the sun’s ultraviolet (UV) rays. Whilst we do need some sunlight to produce vitamin D, you should limit the time you spend in the sun and take measures to protect your skin such as wearing sunscreen and covering skin with clothing. However, despite overexposure to the sun depleting NAD+ levels, spending time in natural or artificial heat can actually boost those levels. You can trigger an increased production of NAD+ levels by enjoying hot tubs, saunas and steam rooms.
Switch up your diet
Certain foods can help you boost NAD+ levels and these include cow’s milk, fish, mushrooms, yeast, green vegetables and whole grains. Additionally, raw foods that contain vitamin B, like avocados, steamed fish, and peanuts, should be part of your daily diet if you’re trying to increase your NAD+ levels. There are also some things you should try and eliminate or at least reduce in your diet such as alcohol. Long-term alcohol consumption disrupts metabolic processes in the body and reduces the efficacy of NAD+.
